PLANTS AND PEOPLE

Plants are the primary food source for all animals, including people and their livestock. In most of Somaliland, people rely on the native plant to feed their livestock, but today more are being lost than becoming established. Humans are the major reason. We use plants for our livestock, construction, and cooking. These activities are essential to Somaliland’s growth. We need to compensate for their negative impacts by promoting the sustainable growth and use of plants in and around villages. This will help improve the livelihoods of rural Somalilanders.
